My smart goal this year is to become better with computers. I want to achieve this goal because computers are a very big part in today's society and can make it easier to get a job in the future with these skills. From now until the end of the school year I want to become better with computers mostly coding. I can achieve this goal by asking friends and learning online. By February I want to know basic commands in coding and become almost fluent in code. My personal goal would be to read more books and get better in grammar. I would like to be able to write nicer and have better wording in my sentences by the end of this year by taking examples from books and learning how to write better sentences. I can also practice writing by writing more than typing at school or at home and trying different writing techniques so my writing can look nicer. Learning how to write better and nicer will help me throughout school and the rest of my career with writing essays and documents and writing messages to people.
Today at school we had an assembly were guest speaker Paul Davis who came to our school to teach us about internet safety. Paul Davis has years of experience in internet and computer related issues. He told us how having a good internet personality can be very beneficial to your life and the laws and risks of using the internet. One of the topics he discussed was how nothing is ever erased and can be retrieved from corporation if needed. He also noted that you could be a very good person but one bad decision online can affect you in a big way. What I learned from today is that to think before you post online and how the internet never forgets or forgives. Paul Davis was very informative and i'm glad he came to our school. Paul Davis could have been more engaging with us to make the presentation more interesting but I did also understand what he was talking about and learned something new. The video below is not him at our school but is Paul Davis doing a TedX Talk. The first academy retreat was to the rockyveiw education center. We started the the retreat by doing some physical activities to get prepared for the day. After these activities we did some team building by setting up tables and chairs but we had to do it without talking. After everything was set up we did some talking on how to leave a good digital footprint. We had to write on sticky notes and answer questions like "what are some things you shouldn't do online" and 'how you should portray yourself online'. After this we had a guest speaker Veronica Funk, an artist who talked about what a good portfolio looks like and gave us an example of her website. We then met with Richard Gaudio who told us how to take a good profile photo. We then had hands-on with the DSLR camera and got in groups were we took photos of ourselves for our website. After that was finished we were taught how to set successful goal called a smart goal. We then got partnered with people in another academy and wrote about each other for our website. I can apply this knowledge to the future on how to set goals and be a good person online. I wouldn't have done anything differently I feel they told us everything we needed to know in an engaging way.
